没读新4之前，很多人说新4很好，我不以为然，读完新4之后，看到别人说新4很好，我还是不以为然。从谴词造句，文章结构，和它一样水平的文章，很多。论词藻的优美，句式的华丽，那就更多。但现在，我仍建议大家去看新4，因为它的价值，不仅仅停留在它的文字上，就像有的网友讲的，它的每一篇文章，就有它的ideal!透过一些也许是酸涩的文字，从字缝之中，去看到那闪烁的光辉。
第16课“the modern city”，里面的话语是如何入木三分地描绘出我们城市的状况啊？“in the organzation of industrial life the influence of the factory upon physiological and mental state of the workers has been completely neglected.”难道不是这样吗？
“the great cities have been built with no regard for us. The shape and dimensions of the skyscrapers dpend entirely on the necessity of obtaining the maximum income per square foot of the ground.”为此，我们要忍受噪音，拥挤的街道，视觉上带来的压力。林立的高楼一度是一个城市人们自豪的资本，却从没人提过他的负面影响。为了建高楼，甚至可以牺牲绿地、公园、运动场所。可以把公益设施砍掉。就像篇末说的“it has not been planned for the good of its inhabitants”
比如45课“of man and galaxies”，一些思想是很值得去品味的。其中列举了摩洛哥和美国同地理情况的城市，指出两个地方在各自大陆的西海岸，气候相似，自然资源相同，但目前的发展情况却完全不一样！为什么呢？“not so much because of different people even,but because of the different thoughts that exist in the minds of their inhabitants. This is the point I wish to emphasize. The most important factor in our environment is the state of our own minds.”决定一个地区发展的，绝不是地理条件、自然资源、人种，而是————人的思想观念！！
所以，思想是最强大的力量，当然，反过来说，也是最危险的东西。“ideas are dangerous. the Holy Office knew this full well when it caused heretics to be burned in days gone by. Indeed, the concept of free speech only exists in our modern society”为什么“言论自由”这种观念只有到现代社会才能产生呢？“because when you are inside a community，you are conditioned by the conventions of the community, to such a degree that it is very difficult to conceive of anything really destructive. ”我们每个人的思想都被所在的社会制约着，特别当一个社会有意这么做时就更可怕了。“I am a prisoner of the present-day world, just as all of you are. We cannot think outside the particular patterns that our brains are conditioned to, or, to be more accurate, we can think only a very little way outside, and then only if we are very original.”
一开始我一直很不理解为什么题目叫“Of man and galaxies”，后来我才理解了，不管任何国家、任何个人，都是生活在名为“地球”的这个星球上，思想再怎么不同，终究会受到人类思维的限制，但是，如果我们有机会和其他星系的智慧生物接触，又会带给我们什么思想啊！到了那时，恐怕没有什么是不可改变的吧！
